Subcamp Leader - Tony Best

My son introduced me to Scouting almost 30 years ago, he’s since escaped and I’m still here! I’ve had a variety of Scouting roles, including CSL, GSL, DC and I’m currently ACC Activities and County DofE Advisor.

As a hillwalking enthusiast I am in the process of setting up a new Mountain Activities ASU for the County and I'm also an assessor for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. My love of the outdoors also extends to geocaching, obsessing over maps and bagging OS Trig points (my long-suffering wife made me put that!).

On previous CamJams I’ve organised the Cub visitor days but this year you’ll find me leading the Southern Ocean (staff) Sub Camp. Sub-camp Leader is a new direction for me; other Jamborees have seen me on the news team at Roverway in Iceland, site services at Scouting Ireland's centenary camp and hillwalking at various 'Red Rose' (West Lancashire) and Peak (Derbyshire) jamborees. I’ve also been heard at a few jamborees skirling my pipes, sometimes by request, sometimes far from it (haven't been asked yet, but you never know).

I'm really looking forward to meeting you all at CamJam and promise I won't play reveille too early in the morning!
